چکیده

The scalability of the resonant frequency in graphene-based nano-antennas (graphennas) and metallic nanoantennas as a function of their length is analyzed. The antenna resonances are obtained by combining the dispersion relation in free-standing graphene and gold layers, respectively, with the resonance condition. Graphennas are found to have a better scalability in terms of their resonant frequency with respect to metallic nano-antennas as their length is reduced to a few μm. These results open up the possibility to build micrometer-sized graphennas that resonate in the terahertz band, at a frequency up to two orders of magnitude below metallic nano-antennas with the same size. Graphennas are thereby envisaged to enable the implementation of wireless communications among nanosystems.

Broad electrical tuning of graphene-loaded plasmonic antennas.

Plasmonic antennas enable the conversion of light from free space into subwavelength volumes and vice versa, which facilitates the manipulation of light at the nanoscale. Dynamic control of the properties of antennas is desirable for many applications, including biochemical sensors, reconfigurable meta-surfaces and compact optoelectronic devices. The combination of metallic structures and graph...

Large Amplitude Vibration Analysis of Graphene Sheets as Resonant Mass Sensors Using Mixed Pseudo-Spectral and Integral Quadrature Methods

The present paper investigates the potential application of graphene sheets with attached nanoparticles as resonant sensors by introducing a nonlocal shear deformation plate model. To take into account an elastic connection between the nanoplate and the attached nanoparticle, the nanoparticle is considered as a mass-spring system. Then, a combination of pseudo-spectral and integral quadrature m...

Determination of Resonance Frequency of Dominant and Higher Order Modes in Thin and Thick Circular Microstrip Patch Antennas with Superstrate by MWM (RESEARCH NOTE)

An accurate model named as the Modified Wolff Model (MWM) is presented as an efficient CAD tool for determination of resonant frequency of the dominant and higher order modes under the multi-layer condition in thin and thick circular microstrip patch antennas. The effects of dielectric cover on the resonant frequency obtained from MWM have been compared against the result of theoretical method ...

Prospects of Graphene-enabled Wireless Communications

Among these, a particularly promising emerging field is graphene-enabled wireless communications. Wireless communications among nanosystems cannot be achieved by simply reducing the size of classical metallic antennas, since that would impose the use of very high resonant frequencies in the optical range. Due to the expectedly very limited power of nanosystems, the low mobility of electrons in ...

Plasmon-induced doping of graphene.

A metallic nanoantenna, under resonant illumination, injects nonequilibrium hot electrons into a nearby graphene structure, effectively doping the material. A prominent change in carrier density was observed for a plasmonic antenna-patterned graphene sheet following laser excitation, shifting the Dirac point, as determined from the gate-controlled transport characteristic. The effect is due to ...
